What is SOUP?
SOUP is an affordable community dinner that helps fund local projects of all sorts that make Montreal a better place through action, art, or community engagement. For a $5-$20 entry charge (sliding scale, depending on what you can afford), you get a soup, bread and a vote.
Doors open at 17:30, and the event begins around 18:00 with live, local music throughout the event. Dinner is served around 19:00.
Between 3-5 groups applying for MTL SOUP funding will give short presentations that explain why they deserve the proceeds from the event, aiming to make those pitches as punchy, interactive, and meaningful as possible. Dinner is served, and people have a chance to speak to fellow SOUP’ers about their favourite projects from the evening.
The food is vegan and vegetarian friendly, and kids are welcome to join (and vote, too).
Guests come for the whole evening (normally until about 20:30-21:00). There’s no early polls or proxy votes!
After dinner, there’s a vote, winners are announced, and the grant recipients walk away with a micro-grant funded directly by SOUP participants (you!).
